Squad of 12 for Asian Senior Womens Championship

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has selected the squad of 12 for the upcoming 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship.

The Championship is scheduled to be held from the 9th to 17th of August in Manila, Philippines.

The Squad includes 08 players from the squad which won the silver medal at the 2016 South Asian Games (SAG) and 02 players from the Sri Lanka U23 side.

Youthful squad of 18 for Asian Senior Women’s Championship

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has selected a preliminary squad of 18 ..

U23 Captain Thilini Wasana Perera was a part of the SAG squad while Apsara Sewamali from the U23 squad has also been selected to the final squad.

Dinesha Prasadini, Iresha Surangani, Kanchana Dilhani, Wasana Madumali, Hashini Lakshika, Chathurika Ranasinghe, and Dilusha Sanjeewani are the others from the 2016 SAG squad.

Dinesha Prasadini who was the captain of the 2016 SAG squad is assigned duties again as the captain, while the 34 year old Iresha Surangani is appointed as the vice-captain of the squad.

Viraji Chamarika, who was the vice-captain of the 2016 SAG squad along with the vice-captain of the U23 squad, Thakshila Madurangi have not been able to make it through to the final squad, although they got selected to the 18 member preliminary squad which was selected earlier.

Dinesha Prasadini was adjudged the Best Player at the 2016 Dialog President’s Gold Cup and the Best Attacker at the 2016 Munchee National Volleyball Championship, while Ashani Chamodika was awarded as the Best Setter at the Munchee National Volleyball Championship.

Chathurika Ranasinghe was the Best Setter at the Dialog President’s Gold Cup and bagged both the Best Blocker and Best Player awards at the Munchee National Volleyball Championship.

The experiences of the veteran Iresha Surangani will play a crucial role throughout the championship and it will add the much needed knowledge to the youthful squad that has been selected.
