Sri Lanka Sports Ministry Secretary has launched an investigation into former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s accusation of the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka being fixed.
The ministry has filed a complaint at the special investigations unit of the Sports Ministry calling for an immediate investigation and to follow action.
2011 World Cup Final ‘match-fixing’ controversy revived by former Minister
“The 2011 Cricket World Cup final was fixed. I stand by what I say. It took place when I was the Minister of Sports. I state it with responsibility. However, I do not wish to expose details for the sake of the country. The game was against India in 2011, a game, which we could have won, was fixed,” Aluthgamage told Sirasa TV yesterday re-earthing an old debate.
However, replying to the former sports ministers’ comments, Skipper and two team members of Sri Lanka Cricket team who played 2011 World Cup final, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera fired back as they asked for evidence to back the claims.
They have responded! ??
