In a move that was long predicted the Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Roshan Ranasinghe temporarily suspended the registration of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL).
FFSL has been in turmoil internally and externally since September 2022 while FIFA too has suspended FFSL siting political interference since 21st January 2023. The Sports Minister has appointed Director General in the Department of Sports Development as the competent authority.’

The official gazette notification stated,
‘I, The Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Roshan Ranasinghe, hereby temporarily suspend the registration of the Sri Lanka Football Federation which perform on behalf of the Sport of Football in Sri Lanka, in accordance with the powers vested in me under the Sections 32(b) and 33 of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973 and as its amendments, and hereby appoint the Director General in the Department of Sports Development as the competent authority to carry out the administrative and other required activities of the said National Sports Federation and to convene and hold the relevant elections and
perform duties in a realistic manner until then, with effect from 04th April, 2023.’
