The third and last day of the South Asian Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championship 2017, got underway today, at the S.Thomas’ College Indoor Courts. The tournament was organized by the South Asian Table Tennis Federation (SATTF) and was held from the 19th to the 21st May 2017, in Mount Lavinia.
India won all 10 of the gold medals on offer and 4 silver medals, followed by Sri Lanka with 6 silver medals and 7 bronze. The total of the 10 medals for India comprised of 6 game medals and 4 team medals. Bangladesh and Maldives were placed third and fourth respectively with 3 bronze medals each. Pakistanwas placed last with two bronze medals.
The Cadet category of the tournament saw two all-India finals in both the boys and girls segments. In the boys segment, Jeho Himnakulhpuingheta (IND) beat Somaiya Chinmaya Kapil (IND) 3 games to 1. In the girls segment, KutumbaleAnusha (IND) beat BhargavaVanshika (IND) 3 games to 2 in a close match.
The final games of the Junior category too featured 4 Indians in the finals. For the boys, Thakkar Manav Vikash (IND) beat Virmani Parth (IND) 3 games to 1. In the girls segment, Kamath Archana Girish (IND) easily beat Pareek Priyanka (IND) 3 games to 0.
The only finalist from Sri Lanka came through the doubles matches. In the boys doubles, Thakkar Manav Vikash (IND) and Virmani Parth (IND) beat K.D.V Madhushan (SRI) and P.D. Umesh Thennakoon (SRI) while Kamath Archana Girish (IND) and Pareek Priyanka (IND) beat K Hansani Piumila (SRI) and S.H.S Imasha De Silva (SRI) in the girls segment.
All-in-all, Sri Lanka had a good run in this tournament but India proved to be too hot for the rest of the nations to handle.
