Sri Lanka Emerging team slipped away from the jaws of defeat and put themselves ahead of the South Africa Emerging team on day-three of the first unofficial Test between the two teams.

Starting the day on 230 for 9, Lankans only managed to hang around for merely 4 more overs, ending their innings on 241 runs, 141 runs behind their opponents. It was a pretty sloppy outing with both bat and ball for the Islanders.
Apart from the brilliance with the bat from the skipper, Charith Asalanka (52) on day-two, it was just Nishan Peiris who managed to go past the fifty-run mark as he remained unbeaten on 52.
Left-arm spinner Kyle Simmonds was the star with the ball for the Proteas. The 25-year-old picked up 4 wickets for 88 runs. The left-arm seam of Nandre Burger was also rewarded with 3 wickets for 58 runs.

Even after a frustrating first half of the game, the Lankans managed to lift their spirits up in the next phase.
Lankan skipper opted to open the bowling with quick bowler Asitha Fernando and the left-arm spin of Lasith Embuldeniya, the exact trick that had worked for his counterpart. And, he bore results right from the word go.
Fernando got the in-form Janneman Malan (01) to pop one up off a leading edge to Nishan Peiris at third slip in the first over. Embuldeniya started drawing his share of blood in the sixth over when he clipped the top of off stump of Jason Smith (02). He also found the edge of Sibonelo Makhanya (05) in the same over.
South Africa Emerging struggled further as they couldn’t steal runs away from the Lankans. The pressure they built earned them the fourth wicket within 10 runs of the last wicket as Mathew Breetzke was trapped in front by Embuldeniya.
Just as Sinethemba Qeshile and his skipper Raynard van Tonder started to look comfortable at the crease, speedster Chamika Karunaratne jumped in to spoil the scene for them. Qeshile was out LBW for 31 runs. He was followed very soon by Dayyaan Galiem in the very next over.

Van Tonder also couldn’t make much of an impact as he departed for 17 runs. Simmonds and Marco Jansen joined at the centre to take the hosts away from embarrassment. Simmonds shone once again as he built up a fighting fifty for his team. Jansen also added a valuable 49 runs to the total.
Embuldeniya and Fernando combined once again to wrap things up for the Sri Lankans. SA emerging were bundled out for 189 runs. Embuldeniya picked up yet another fifer on South African soil while Fernando ended up with 3 wickets to his name.
330 runs was set as a target for the visitors. They got a positive start for the chase with an opening stand of 74 runs between Hasitha Boyagoda and Minod Banuka. Boyagoda departed for 33 runs.
Minod Banuka who was out first ball in the first innings made up for it with a quality knock as he ended the day, putting his team in a very competitive position in the game for the first time, with 80 runs. His knock saw 11 fabulous boundaries in it. Pathum Nissanka was at the other end with 25 runs to his name.
Sri Lanka requires 186 more runs to win the game with 9 wickets in hand. The game will resume tomorrow for day 4.
