SA Emerging Eleven posted 352/6 after electing to bat first on the first day of the first test against SL Emerging Eleven at Potchefstroom.

It has being a disappointing tour so far for the SL Emerging team as they could only win one match in the tri series which ended last week. There were few individual performances but overall as a team they haven’t been able to put a good show thus far. Things did not get any better on the first day of the first test match which got underway today.

After losing the toss, the Lankans didn’t create any difficulty to the South African batsmen who went on their business with ease. The opening pair of Karabo Mogotsi and Simon Khomari  posted 76 runs for the first wicket which set the platform for the home side. But the Lankans struck a double blow by sending both openers back to pavilion within one over. SA top order got good starts but failed to make it big until Jason Smith got to the crease.

Smith played a blinder of an innings which took the home side to a dominating position at stumps on day 1. Smith’s unbeaten 124 off just 127 deliveries guided the home side to a total of 352 for 6 before the day’s play came to a premature end due to bad light. Keshan Wijerathne and Amila Aponsu took 2 wickets each but the Lankans gave away too many runs which allowed SA Emerging to reach this target at a brisk pace.
