After a meeting held at the Sports Ministry this evening (02nd March) between the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA), Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) representatives and the Minister of Sports Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, a decision has been made to go ahead with this week’s schools rugby matches.

Speaking to ThePapare.com regarding the decision to let the league continue, Minister Jayasekara stated that “We have given time to the SLSRFA until 3.00pm next Wednesday (8th) to hand over the set of rules and regulations that will govern the current league to SLR. If they fail to do so we will take necessary action to stop the referees from officiating in any games and the league will not go ahead”

When querried why the decision to halt the league was overturned despite the schools association failing to provide the basic necessity of rules that govern the league, Minister stated that “Yes this is a huge mishap by the SLSRFA who are the governing body of this tournament. It is however unfair to penalize the schools and the children who have worked hard for months due to the shortcomings of SLSRFA. We have given them time till next week and have adviced the Ministry of Education as well that if they fail to supply the necessary details and obtain approval from SLR that the league will be suspended”

ThePapare.com hopes that this crisis is solved as soon as possible so that the much awaited school’s league which promises to be a thriller with teams evenly matching up can go ahead without further hindrance.
