Navy Sports Club to win the Women’s Division 1 Championship today (2nd April) as they defeated Army Cricket Club by 2 wickets at Navy Grounds in Welisara.
The final day of the Women’s Division 1 Tournament was held today with four more encounters being worked off at several venues. Before the commencement of the day, Navy Sports Club topped the league points table with 29 points while Army Cricket Club (A) had secured second place with 25 points.
Under the circumstances, the encounter held today between Navy Sports Club and Army Cricket Club (A) was turned out to be the unofficial final of the tournament.
After been asked to bat first, Army CC posted 138 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Madushika Meththananda ( 37) and Sugandhika Kumari (30) top-scored Army CC.

The left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera was the pick of the bowlers for Navy SC as she picked up 4 scalps for 27 runs.
Chasing 139 runs win, Navy SC got off to a poor start losing 6 wickets for just 62 runs but the experienced campaigner Shashikala Siriwardena (43) showed her class with the bat guiding the sailors to the win in the 49th over.
Chamari Atapattu became the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 429 runs while Inoka Ranaweera emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 25 wickets.
