The much-anticipated Sri Lanka Cricket Super T20 tournament also known as the SLC Elite T20 Championship will start on 26th January and will go on till 5th February.
All matches will be played at R. Premadasa International Stadium. This tournament will be the ideal tournament to select upcoming and in-form players for the forthcoming ICC World T20 defense in India.
Incidentally, Sri Lanka T20 captain Lasith Malinga and Sri Lanka ODI & Test captain Angelo Mathews will not be playing this tournament as they are nursing injuries. Key left-arm spinner Rangana Herath has also not been named in any of the squads.
The five Provincial teams would be Colombo Commandos, Galle Guardians, Kurunegala Warriors, Hambantota Troopers and Kandy Crusaders. Each team will play each other in a round-robin stage which will be followed up by the semi-finals on 3rd February and the final on 5th February.
Colombo Commandoes will be led by charismatic all-rounder Milinda Siriwardana while Dinesh Chandimal will lead the Galle Guardians team. Mahela Udawatte will skipper the Kurunegala Warriors while experienced TM Dilshan have been assigned to lead the Hambanthota Troopers team. Lahiru Thirimanne will render his duties as the captain of the Kandy Crusaders team.
The national selectors have included also five under 19 school boys as well, two from S. Thomas’ College, one each from Royal College, Colombo, Dharmapala College Pannipitiya and St. Peter’s College.
