The Sri Lanka Cricket Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2015/16 has been postponed by a week to 27th November due to the inclement weather conditions in the island last couple of weeks.
Earlier, the tournament was scheduled to start on 20th November but after a meeting with the clubs, tournament committee has decided to postpone the start of the competition by a week.
Some clubs have complained that they are not yet fully prepared to participate due to the heavy showers even though the weather conditions have improved drastically over the last two days.
According to the new schedule, finals will be played on 30th December while the two semi-finals will be worked off on 23rd and 24th of December.
The top 14 clubs in Sri Lanka will fight it out in two groups to be the champions of Sri Lanka.
Last year’s championship was won by Colts Cricket Club beating Sinhalese Sports Club in the final.
ThePapare.com has learnt that 7 players, Jeevan Mendis, Ajantha Mendis, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Chamara Kapugedara, Thisara Perera, Sachithra Senanayake and Seekkuge Prasanna have been given NOCs (No Objection Certificates) by SLC to participate in the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) to keep the good relationship with the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) authorities after the players insisted on gaining permission. All seven players released are likely to be in contention for Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup squad, and indeed the World T20 to follow.
