Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and Colombo Cricket Club registered comprehensive outright wins on Sunday against Badureliya Sports Club and Saracens Sports Club respectively in the SLC Premier League ‘Tier A’ Tournament 2016/17.

Chilaw Marians vs Badureliya

Spin twins, Malinda Pushpakumara and Maduka Liyanapathiranage grabbed 10 wickets apiece as Chilaw Marians demolished the hapless Badureliya outfit by 291 runs at FTZ grounds in Katunayake.

Resuming from their overnight score of 196 for 5, the hosts accumulated 67 quick runs in just 8.2 overs to set a daunting target of 385 for the visitors. None of the batsmen lasted more than 43 balls as left-arm spinner Pushpakumara grabbed 4 wickets in the second innings to end up with 10 for 88 for the match while off-spinner Liyanapathiranage captured a 6-wicket haul to return 10 for 64 as Badureliya were cleaned up for just 93 runs.

Chilaw Marians – 235 all out in 79.3 overs: Mahela Udawatte 69, Sachithra Serasinghe 34, Kasun Vidura 33, Rukshan Fernando 33, Alankara Asanka 5/102, Nuwan Karunarathne 3/35.

CCC vs Saracens

CCC defended 230 successfully as they defeated a strong Saracens lineup by 109 runs at CCC grounds.

Day three started with Saracens on 25 for 2 and they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Chinaman Lakshan Sandakan and off-spinning captain Ashan Priyanjan grabbed 3 wickets apiece as Saracens succumbed to only 121 runs in the opening session. Captain Harsha Cooray top scored for the losing team with a fighting 31 while Wanindu Hasaranga stole the limelight scoring twin half-tons in his debut game for CCC.

SSC vs Tamil Union

SSC recorded a much-needed first innings win over the defending champions, Tamil Union in their high-scoring drawn game at P. Sara Oval Grounds.

Captain Kithruwan Vithanage stroked a stunning 184-ball 125 which included 8 fours and 5 sixes but Tamil Union fell 43 runs short of claiming a first innings win as leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay took 5 wickets to bowl out the hosts for 460 in reply to SSC’s score of 503. More than 1000 runs were scored throughout the course of three days.

SL Army vs BRC

Sri Lanka Army had to be satisfied only with first-innings points in their drawn game against Burgher Recreation Club at Army grounds in Panagoda.

After being in a tricky situation on 68 for 6, Asela Gunarathne and Sanjika Ridma stroked sensible half-centuries to take Army out of danger and set the visitors a target of 300. BRC in reply were 192 for the loss of 6 wickets in 36 overs. Earlier in the game, Gunarathne clobbered a stunning 158.

NCC vs Bloomfield

The young Bloomfield side showed some fight against the star-studded NCC outfit but the visitors are still trailing by 149 runs in the second innings at NCC grounds.

Right-handed Aloka Amarasiri stroked a rearguard, unbeaten 87 to steer Bloomfield to 200 in their first innings. Amarasiri smashed 4 sixes and 9 fours during his magnificent 108-ball 87. Dushmantha Chameera showed great promise in his comeback game bowling 9 overs in the first innings to grab 2 wickets while off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal captured 3 wickets for the hosts.

After being asked to follow-on, Bloomfield made a bold reply with the former Ananda-Nalanda duo of Nisal Fransisco and Lahiru Jayakody scoring 32 and 56 during their unbroken 90-run stand. Sri Lanka Vice-Captain Dinesh Chandimal also returning from injury grabbed 3 catches in the cordon during the first innings.

The match will be continued tomorrow for third day’s play.
