Six matches of the SLC major league tournament – tier A were played across several venues of the country today the 15th March. Four out of the six matches came to conclusion with two of them ending in draws while Chilaw Marians CC & Colombo CC earned innings wins out of their fixtures.

Lankan Cricket Club Vs Chilaw Marians Cricket Club

Overseas player Sagar Udeshi led the Chilaw bowling charge with a six-fer to bundle Lankan CC for a paltry 126. After which, the trend continued for Chilaw as yet another overseas player Sumit Ghadhigaonkar topped the batting cards for them with a brilliant 149 while National caps Oshadha Fernando and Kamindu Mendis unfortunately perished in the ’80s after making promising starts. Eventually, Chilaw Marians declared at 432 for 8 putting the Lankans 306 runs behind. Lankan CC were only able to accumulate 156 runs of their 306 runs lead which handed Chilaw Marians a win by an inning and 150 runs.

Malinda Pushpakumara’s 6 wicket haul helped CCC to rout the Army batting line up for just 236 runs at Panagoda. In reply, Colombo CC posted a hefty 410 runs, courtesy of young Kavindu Nadeeshan’s maiden first class century and fifties from the skipper Ashan Priyanjan and Lahiru Madhushanka. Army fell 8 runs short of the 177 run lead posted by CCC perishing to an innings defeat at their own den.

A total of 1183 runs were scored in a run fest of a match at moors where both sides were competent with their bat which hindered the chances of seeing a result to this match. Moors were handed a target of 388 runs to chase down in the fourth inning were 55 runs behind while SSC were in need of just 1 wicket to clinch the game, neither of which happened ending the nailbiter as a drawn encounter. Sammu Ashan scored a century for SSC in the second inning while Charith Asalanka struck twin fifties in both the innings while Skipper Pabasara Waduge led the batting with a 132 & 96 in both innings for the Moors.

An important 130 from the bat of Santhush Gunathilaka helped Colombo Colts CC to better the 294 runs posted by Negombo CC with a lead of 105 runs, afterwhich, the lads from Negombo further added 238 runs with their second inning to set a target of 133 runs for the Colts to chase down. Colts were 88 for 6 when the stumps were called ending the match in a draw.
