Total of 11 centuries recorded; Bloomfield out-bowl Navy within one day

SLC MAJOR LEAGUE TOURNAMENT 2019/20 - TIER A & TIER B

336

Twelve matches played out today in the SLC Major League Tournament in both Tiers A and B. Six games were played in Tier A while six more games were played in Tier B. Almost all the matches were decorated with centuries except for the low-scoring encounter between Bloomfield CAC & Sri Lanka Navy. Bloomfield bowled their way to victory, but the dominance of the batters in both tiers was clearly proven with as many as eleven centuries being recorded today.

SLC MAJOR LEAGUE TOURNAMENT 2019/20 – TIER A

There were runs written all over the day in all games played, with not much to be said for the bowlers’ performances. Pabasara Waduge, Sammu Ashan, Santhush Gunathilaka, Kavindu Nadeeshan, Angelo Perera and Lahiru Milantha all hit centuries for their respective teams while Dananjaya De Silva, Dushan Vimukthi, Malinda Pushpakumara and Sagar Udeshi were the rare top performers with the ball.

Among the centurions, Lahiru Milantha’s unbeaten 155 against a top class Tamil Union bowling attack which featured three national caps, was simply phenomenal, as the stylish left-hander carved a commanding hundred to his name. The lack of support from the other end saw Badureliya having to be bundled out for just 286. Yet another brilliant century was struck by Sri Lanka youth cap Kavindu Nadeeshan, who announced his arrival as a dependable all-rounder in the first class arena. Kavindu hit eleven fours and a six in his unbeaten 122, helping CCC to gain a 172-run lead over Sri Lanka Army. NCC, Chilaw Marians, Negombo CC and Badureliya all take the upper hand in their respective encounters, while Colombo CC align themselves to a possible victory.

SLC MAJOR LEAGUE TOURNAMENT 2019/20 – TIER B

Nothing much was different in Tier B as runs just kept pouring in, while five centuries were recorded in four out of the five matches in progress. Dulash Udayanga (143), Yohan De Silva (110), Harsha Cooray (114*), Ranesh Perera (100*) and Sachin Fernando (100) all got to triple figures while Chanaka Komasaru (6/96), Kavindu Ediriweera (5/70) & (6/44), Naveen Kavikara (8/69), Roshan Jayatissa (6/48), Hasantha Fernando (6/31) were the stars with the ball.

Dulash Udayanga amassed a top class 143 for Police, which put them just over the 400 mark; while centuries from Ranesh Perera and Sachin Fernando saw the Sebastianites’ CAC post a massive 459 runs. Comparatively, a more competitive performance was staged by the bowlers in Tier B, particularly seen in the 11-wicket match bag from the youngster Kavindu Ediriweera as well as the 8-wicket haul of Naveen Kavikara, both of which were commendable performances.

Unlike all the other high-scoring encounters, Bloomfield CAC & Navy SC locked horns on a low-scoring encounter which saw only a combined 278 runs by both teams. After being bowled out cheaply for 36 runs, Navy were able to restrict Bloomfield for just 180 runs. However, a very poor performance with the bat yet again saw the Navy lads all out for just 62 runs. Veteran spinner Gayan Sirisoma proved his worth once again, walking away with a 11-wicket match bag, eventually spurring his team on to a win by an inning and 82 runs.
