Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC (SLPACC) powered their way to an emphatic ten wicket outright victory over Panadura SC in their Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Premier League inter club cricket tournament match which concluded at the Panadura Esplanade today.
Panadura SC following on never looked like making a match of it and they were eventually bowled out for a modest 258 runs in the second innings from just 64.3 overs.
The chief wrecker was the opening bowler Chaminda Bandara who snapped up four wickets for 64 runs from seventeen economical overs with the back up support coming from Tyronne Gamage and Chanaka Komasaru.
Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC who had rattled up a massive 423 runs for 9 wickets in their first innings were left with a target of just 16 runs at the end and they made it from 1.1 overs to complete a rousing outright victory.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Army Sports Club pulled off a thrilling two wicket outright victory over the CCC in their SLC Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Maitland Crescent today.
After CCC had recovered well to make an impressive 307 runs in their second innings Army SC were left with a victory target of 253 runs and they took up the challenge and achieved it in the most spectacular manner.
Even then Army SC slumped to 107 for 4 wickets during their run chase at one stage but two fighting half centuries from Asela Gunaratne (73) and former Sri Lanka all rounder Seekuge Prasanna (71) took them home safely at the end with two wickets to spare.
The NCC also tasted success with more than a session to spare as they cruised to a resounding innings and 39 runs outright victory over Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club in their Premier League encounter which concluded at Maitland Place today.
The Airmen who were trailing by a huge 356 runs in the first innings did put up a fight in their second attempt to save the game with skipper and opening batsman Sajith Kelumpriya stroking a painstaking century with the help of one six and ten boundaries.
Dushan Vimukthi and Achira Eranga also struck fighting half centuries but the rest of the batting simply collapsed against the deadly spin of former Sri Lanka cap Tharindu Kaushal who went on return excellent figures of six wickets for 91 runs.
Ragama CC put up a fine performance to snatch first innings points over Tamil Union in their Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo today.
Tamil Union chasing Ragama CC’s first innings total of 384 runs were dismissed for 325 runs despite a brave effort from skipper Jeevan Mendis who struck a magnificent 118 from 142 deliveries inclusive of two sixes and eighteen boundaries.
However the rest of the batting could not support him and Tamil Union eventually fell short by 59 runs with former Sri Lanka spinner Malinga Bandara returning tremendous figures of six wickets for 57 runs and supported well by his spin partner Sajeewa Weerakoon.
Tamil Union of course made another determined effort to force an outright victory while reducing their opponents to 150 for 7 wickets in the second innings.
Meanwhile the SSC had to be content with first innings points in their SLC Premier League cricket tournament match against Chilaw Marians CC which concluded at Maitland Place today.
Chilaw Marians CC reallymade amends for their first innings failure with an improved batting performance in their second attempt which was spearheaded by Sahan Wijeratne and Saliya Saman with both completing fighting half centuries.
