SSLC Major League tournament kicked off today (19th August) with 12 matches being played at several venues across the island.
The 21-year-old Avishka Perera stole the limelight on the opening day of the SLC Major League tournament scoring a magnificent double century for Colts Cricket Club. Playing in only his 4th first-class match, Perera stroked his maiden double century showing the promising future that lies ahead for the youngster.
Perera remained unbeaten on 210 runs off 253 balls with 17 fours and 3 sixes. National cap Dinesh Chandimal continued his rich form with the bat scoring a brilliant century for Army Cricket Club. Chandimal stroked 152 runs off 246 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes.
The in-form opening batter Lasith Croospulle smashed an excellent century for Ace Capital Cricket Club. He made 160 runs off 139 balls with 16 fours and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 115.11. The number three batter of Ace Capital CC, the left-hander Thanuka Dabare was more aggressive with the bat as he stroked a blistering 133 runs off 87 balls with 18 fours and 6 sixes at an astonishing strike rate of 152.87.
Apart from them, Nishan Madushka of Ragama CC, Pasindu Sooriyabandara of Moors SC, Sadeera Samarawickrama of Tamil Union C & AC, Hashan Dumindu of Colts CC and Anuk Fernando of Badureliya Cricket Club also stroked centuries.
