Four matches of the Tier B Major League Tournament 2018/19 concluded today as the fifth week of the tournament came to an end. 3-day encounters were worked off from the 27th to 29th of March.
Kalutara Town Club Vs Galle Cricket Club
Kaluthara Town Club was completely destroyed by a dominant Galle CC performance, handing them a defeat of an innings and 115 runs at the Galle International Cricket Ground.
Kalutara won the toss and elected to bat first but were folded for 149 runs, courtesy of experienced Off spinner Suraj Randiv’s 7-fer.
Galle put up a mammoth total of 406 runs thanks to 41-year-old Damitha Hunukumbara’s stylish century. Then left arm orthodox Gayan Sirisoma spun his way to a 5-wicket haul to restrict Kaluthara for 142 and seal the victory for Galle CC.
Suraj Randiv’s all-round performance was the highlight of the match: 9 wickets & 67 runs.

Bloomfield hosted Kurunegala Youth Club in a head-turning battle but ultimately, a strong Bloomfield CAAC outfit came out victorious by 7 wickets to record their 2nd win in the tournament.
Former Royalist Geeshat Panditharatne was the main contributor with the bat for Bloomfield as he piled a 158-match total to guide his team to the victory.

Air Force Sports Club Vs Panadura Sports Club
Air Force SC and Panadura SC locked horns at the Air Force Ground, Katunayake and Panandura lower middle order held their nerves to secure a thrilling draw which was heading for an Air Force victory.
Home team decided to bat first after winning the toss but off spinner Sehan Weerasinghe’s 6/74 made sure the Air Force were bundled out for 223.
After the reply of 258 by Panadura SC, the hosts came out attacking in the second innings as they raced to 302/6 in 65 overs on the back of Dulash Udayanga’s eye catching 119* before they declared and asked Panadura SC to chase 268 in 600 odd overs.
Panadura SC had to stop dreaming for a win after they were reduced to 5 for 46 in the 16th over and were forced to block for a draw.
Hosts could only dismiss one batsman after their early attack and the game ended in a draw.

Police Sports Club Vs Navy Sports Club
The Navy Ground at Welisara facilitated another game between the hosts and Police SC which didn’t produce a result this week.
Exciting young talent Nishan Madushka of Moratu Vidyalaya played an impressive knock of 70, continuing his form this season and veteran spinner Ajantha Mendis changed his roles to score 63 in Police SC’s 1st innings.
Left arm spinner Dinuka Hettiarachchi starred with the ball for Police as he ended up with 8 wickets to his name while Salitha Fernando of Navy Sports Club scored half centuries in both innings.
