Sinhalese Sports Club registered a thumping 9-wicket win over Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club to begin the Major League Under 23 two-day tournament on a high. Former Sri Lanka under 19 cap leg spinner Kavindu Nadeeshan had a mesmerising first game as he took a match bag of 14 wickets. The opening batter Kosala Ravindu was the only positive for Kurunegala as he scored 120 and 88 in the two innings respectively.
Tamil Union ended their opening clash with a first-innings win against Galle Cricket Club while CCC also had to settle for a first-innings win against Ragama. Moors sports club was another team that managed to get an all-important first innings win as they just edged over Chilaw Marians. Nugegoda Sports Welfare Club was the surprise of week 1 as they shocked Sri Lanka Air Force to gain a first-inning win. BRC also walked out with vital first-inning win points.

Ace Capital who made 400 in their first batting effort had to settle without a first innings win as NCC came out with a watchful but solid reply. NCC were on 249/4 when the play was called off for day 2. The game between Sri Lanka Army and Panadura sports club faced the same fate as bad light forced the game to stop when Pandara needed 17 runs and Army needed just 1 wicket to get the initial advantage.
