The SLC Major Clubs U23 Two-Day Tournament kicked off today (18th February), with 9 matches commencing at several venues across the island.
Ravindu Rathnayake and Theeraka Ranatunga smashed centuries, as Ace Capital CC posted a solid total on day 1 of their encounter against NCC. Rathnayake was the top-scorer of the day among all batters as he made a superlative knock of 144 runs off 178 balls with 5 fours and 11 sixes.
Ranatunga supported him very well at the other end, scoring an unbeaten 121 runs off 176 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes.
Mineth Premarathne’s fine century helped Bloomfield post 254 for their first innings. Saviru Bandara and Lakshan Gamage stood out with the ball for BRC, taking 4 wickets each. In reply, BRC got off to a solid start, posting 100/1 at the close of play on day 1.
SSC took the upper hand against Kurunegala YCC on day 1 of their two-day encounter, which commenced today at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala. Having been asked to bat first, Kurunegala YCC were bowled out for 176 despite the opening batter Kosala Ravindu smashing a blistering century.
The wrist-spinner Kavindu Nadeeshan was brilliant with the ball for SSC as he claimed 6 wickets for 38 runs. SSC replied strongly with the bat, posting 274/7 at the close of play on day one. Dinura Kalupahana and Chamindu Wickramasinghe starred with the bat, scoring vital half-centuries.
