Two matches of the SLC Major Clubs U23 Tournament were played today (07th March), at Colombo and Maggona.
The Group C encounter between Chilaw Marians CC and BRC ended in a draw today at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo.
However, BRC managed to claim first innings points as they went past Chilaw Marians first innings total of 222, thanks to Dulaj Ashen’s excellent knock.
The Chilaw Marians were bowled out for 145 for their second innings, setting a modest target of 130 runs to win for BRC. However, the BRC batters did not have time on their side to chase down the target as they finished with 71/4 in 7.4 overs at the close of play on Day 2.
Lakshan Gamage, who was sent to open the batting in order to get their side to a brisk start, did his job perfectly by smashing 53 runs off 29 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 182.76.
The Group A encounter between Nugegoda SWC and NCC commenced today at Maggona. Having won the toss, Nugegoda SWC opted to bat first and posted 219 courtesy of Sanoj Perera and Kevin Perera’s half-centuries.
The left-arm spinner Gishan Balasooriya was the pick of the bowlers for NCC as he picked up 4 wickets for 28 runs. In reply, NCC posted 49/2 at the close of play on day one.
