Ace Capital Cricket Club and Colombo Cricket Club managed to qualify for the final of the SLC Major Clubs 50 Overs Tournament as they overcame Moors Sports Club and Sinhalese Sports Club in their respective semi-final encounters worked off today (8th August) in Colombo.

In the first semi-final, Ace Capital CC registered a comfortable win over Moors SC at SSC Grounds, Colombo.

After been put into bat first, Ace Capital CC posted 222 runs on the board courtesy of fine half-centuries from Sammu Ashan and Wanuja Sahan.

The leg-spinner Danushka Udara was the pick of the bowlers for Moors SC as he grabbed 4 wickets for 39 runs.

In reply, Moors batting unit was bundled out for just 124 runs as Sithum Disanayaka and Nimsara Atharagalla ripped through their batting lineup sharing 7 wickets between them.

CCC registered a thumping win over SSC in the second semi final encounter played at P. Sara Oval Ground, Colombo.

Having been asked to bat first, SSC put on 239 runs on the board with the middle order batter Nuwanidu Fernando being the top scorer with a knock of 61 runs.

Sri Lanka white-ball skipper Charith Asalanka and opening batter Avishka Fernando who featured in the national team’s historic win against India yesterday, represented SSC today and contributed with knocks of 42 and 37 with the bat respectively.

The left-arm spinner Chaturanga de Silva and chinaman bowler Lakshan Sandakan starred with the ball for CCC, scalping 3 wickets each.

CCC cruised to the target quite convincingly thanks to a match-winning double-century stand between Pavan Rathnayake and Anjala Bandara. The duo added unbeaten 224 runs off 193 balls for the third wicket.

Rathnayake stroked 157 runs off 117 balls with 15 fours and 9 sixes at a strike rate of 134.18 while Bandara hit 60 runs off 78 balls with 4 fours at a strike rate of 76.92.

Ace Capital CC will meet CCC in the final of the tournament on the 11th August at SSC Grounds, Colombo.
