Seven matches of SLC Major Clubs 50 Overs Tournament 2024 were worked off today (13th June) at several venues across the island.
Moors Sports Club registered a convincing win over Nugegoda Sports & Welfare Club in their Group B encounter played at Bloomfield Grounds, Colombo.

After being put into bat first, Moors SC posted 229 runs for 9 wickets thanks to brilliant knocks from Janishka Perera and Pasindu Sooriyabandara. The opening batter Perera stroked 97 runs off 138 balls with 3 fours and a six, while Sooriyabandara hit 75 runs off 83 balls with 6 fours and a six.
The right-arm seamer Dilshan Abeysinghe was the standout performer with the ball for Nugegoda S & WC, as he grabbed 5 wickets for 39 runs. The off-spinner Tillakaratne Sampath also picked up 3 wickets for 34 runs.

In reply, Nugegoda S & WC made only 178 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 49 overs. The right-arm seamer Milan Rathnayake (3/26) and off-spinner Ramesh Mendis (2/21) shared 5 wickets between them.
Meanwhile, Sinhalese Sports Club suffered a 5-wicket defeat at the hands of Ace Capital Cricket Club in their Group A encounter played at SLAOCIC Stadium in Kalutara.
The strong SSC batting outfit was restricted to just 157 runs despite Dimuth Karunaratne’s fighting half-century. The off-spinner Thanuka Dabare once again stood out with the ball for Ace Capital CC, scalping 3 wickets for 31 runs.

Ace Capital CC chased down the target in the 39th over with 5 wickets in hand. Pawantha Weerasinghe anchored the run-chase with a match-winning half-century – 79 runs off 102 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes.
