The Major Club 3-Day Tournament 2023, organized by Sri Lanka Cricket, kicked off today (23rd June) at several venues across the island.
Today was the first day of 10 matches which are to be played under two groups, where two centuries and four 5-wicket hauls were recorded.

A veteran batter, Angelo Mathews, who is playing for Colts CC, scored his 27th first-class century (124), which helped them to post 263 in their first innings against Kandy Customs. Mathews’ innings consisted of 10 fours and 6 sixes.
Ragama Cricket Club’s middle order batsman Sanjay Chathuranga was the other centurion of the day where he was dismissed for 102 runs, which became his second first-class century. Apart from him, Ruwantha Kellepotha, Dimuth Sandaruwan, Sahil Dias, Sohan de Livera and Hasitha Boyagoda came close to that mark, but could not reach their centuries.

Shehada Soysa of Army Sports Club took 6 wickets for 46 runs, which were his best figures in his first-class career, leading the bowling unit to restrict Nugegoda Sports Club to 149. In addition to this, Rohan Jayatissa performed well for ACE Capital with a 6-wicket haul against Bloomfield.
It was notable that both the other fifers recorded on the day were produced by the two fast bowlers Mohammad Dilshad and Nisala Tharaka.
