Minod and Ashan open outside chance for CCC to qualify

SLC Major Clubs T20 Tournament 2022

The re-play of the rain-hindered games in the Major Club T20 Tournament resumed with 2 games being played yesterday and 6 more being worked off today (6).

A brisk partnership between the Colombo CC Skipper, Ashan Priyanjan, and a senior cog in the team, Minod Bhanuka, instilled hope back again to the CCC camp as they now look at an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals with 2 more games remaining.

Chasing 129 runs for victory against Sri Lanka Air Force SC, Bhanuka anchored the innings for CCC. The stylish left-hander scored 58 runs in 47 deliveries with 4 spectacular sixers being included in his knock.

The experienced Priyanjan was in no mood to fend as he went all guns blazing right from the start of the innings. He struck at a strike rate of over 170, as the right-hander smashed 3 sixers and 4 fours on his way to 43 runs in 25 deliveries. These two batters ensured that CCC won the game comfortably.

Meanwhile, Inshaka Siriwardena of Kalutara Town Club took fans by surprise as he was instrumental in a tied game which went on to become the lowest-scoring tied encounter in Sri Lanka. Siriwardena claimed a fifer in just 12 deliveries against Galle Cricket Club. Both teams ended up scoring 30 runs each in this rain-shortened 6-overs-per-side affair.

Although Kasun Vidura of Chilaw Marians CC also did score a fine fifty against Ragama CC, his team gave him no support to pull the game their way. The Marians ended with just 117 runs on board, while Vidura scored 51 runs, and the Captain of the team Kavindu Irosh made 46 runs. None of the other batters made over 5 runs.

It was still a crunch chase for Ragama CC as Left-arm spin duo Avindu Theekshana and Raveen Yasas showed resistance with the ball in hand. The pair helped the Marians to drag the game till the last over, but Ragama CC still managed to go past the line in the end.

Both Theekshana and Yasas picked up 3 wickets each in the game.

Methushan Thilina of Kandy Customs CC registered the best figures of the day with 3 wickets for 12 runs in his 4 overs against Negombo CC.

The star spinner of Colombo Colts CC, Akila Dananjaya also picked 3 for 12 runs against Police Sports Club.
