Ashley de Silva, the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, told media that the discussions are underway with the Medical Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket to decide whether the COVID vaccine will be given to Sri Lanka Cricket players in the future.
“We are currently having discussions with our Medical Committee headed by Professor Arjuna de Silva to look into the matter. They are overseeing the health condition of our players,” de Silva said.

He also said that they must act in accordance with the Government’s regulations. “The Government’s directive is that frontline workers and the most vulnerable will be the first to get vaccinated, so we have to discuss this with the Government. We cannot make a final decision regarding the vaccine”.
Ashley de Silva further commented, “With the pandemic situation in the country, we managed to conduct LPL and play two more International series, and we have quite a number of tournaments coming up this year. Let’s see what we can do.”

While being involved in practice sessions, fast bowlers Binura Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne were the first to be infected with the virus. Subsequently, Sri Lanka Cricket Head Coach Mickey Arthur and Test opening batsman Lahiru Thirimanne contacted the virus.
Both Arthur and Thirimanne are currently under quarantine in accordance with Government health regulations, while the rest of the team is reportedly under quarantine at their homes.
Sri Lanka’s scheduled tour to West Indies was also postponed following Head Coach Mickey Arthur and batsman Lahiru Thirimanne being tested positive for COVID-19 on the 3rd of February.
