SLBA U19 Schools – Kandy Ambush Colombo

182

Kingswood College Kandy emerged victorious over St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa in the SLBA U-19 Schools tournament match that was played today. The scoreboard read 73-49 in favor of the Kandy lads.

Sebastanites winning the jump ball made a good impression by scoring the first basket and maintaining a solid defense against the Kings. However Hansaka got the party started for the Kings by making a free throw.

Since Sebs were on top on the cards in rebounds, Kings needed a little bit of teamwork to get the scoreboard running for themselves. Both teams lacked consistency in their offence as they ended up scoring 13 points each at the end of the first quarter.

The Moratuwa lads decided on a zonal defensive strategy against the Kings. Nimash from Sebs scored the maiden three pointer for the match showing some amazing dribbling skills. Mayantha from Kingswood College fought hard to get the points against a very strong defense.

The pressure in the offence had immediate effect on the kings as they ended up scoring just 08 points for the second quarter of the match.  Sebs managing to have a slight lead against the Kings the scoreboard read 24 – 21 in favor of the Sebastanites by the end of the first half.

St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa 24

Kingswood College Kandy –  21

With the start of the third quarter the kandy lads showed some amazing team work & skills which they were lacking in the first half of the match. Mayantha and Thilina from Kandy put up a great show to the spectators by swishing the nets off mid-range jumpers and layups. Sebs started to fall apart in both their offence and defense. It was a game changing quarter where Sebs were only able to score just twelve points when the mighty kandyans scored twenty eight.

Kingswood lads stepped into the final ten minutes with a thirteen point lead and from there onwards it was just defending their amazing work during the third quarter. Skipper Shawn from the Sebastanites fought a one man battle by scoring sixteen points but wasn’t enough to overcome the Kings as they kept on scoring. Kings turning out to be the better team at the end of the match beating Sebs quite comprehensively at Royal College basketball courts.
