S.Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia emerged victorious over Dharmashoka Vidyalaya last evening, 38- 17 at the final whistle becoming the Group B Champions in the SLBA U-19 Schools tournament.

Thomians earned the jump-ball but they could not convert it into points as the lads from down south recorded the first points on the board. But from there onwards it was pure dominance by the lads from Mount Lavinia. Mathew Senn got things going for the Thomians and they ended up scoring twelve points and restricting the lads from Ambalangoda to only four points by the end of the first quarter.

Dasun from Dharmashoka kicked off the second quarter with a three pointer followed by a lovely mid-range jumper by Akila as they lads from Mount bounced right back. Counterparts seemed to have trouble finishing at the basket, as their driving lanes were heavily fortified by the Thomians. Both teams clung on equally to their offensive and defensive rebounds.

The boys from down south  were in desperate need to settle themselves in the second half of the match; but they couldn’t score a single basket in the third quarter against the mighty defense unit of Thomians. S Thomas scored nine points including a three pointer by Senura and increasing their lead to twenty one points by the end of the third quarter.

A new set of players were replaced to the court by the Thomian coach a few minutes into the final quarter of the match as they were sensing victory with a comfortable lead over the lads from Ambalangoda. They managed to win the game 17- 38 becoming the group B Champions.
