The Sri Lanka Tennis Nationals, which is regarded as one of the oldest annual sport events in South Asia, will be held from Aug. 16-24 at the SLTA hard courts, Green Path, Colombo. The entries for the tournament are now available at the SLTA and on its website www.srilankatennis.com.

This year’s Nationals will be sponsored by Airtel. ‘The Island’ will be the media sponsor. The official ball will be ‘Dunlop.’ Dharaka Ellawala will be the Tournament Referee. Tournament Director will be Udith Wickremasinghe. Entries will close on Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. at the SLTA.

The Tennis Nationals has been held so far for 118 years since 1884. Yet, the SLTA, which was formerly known as the Ceylon Lawn Tennis Association, has organised the event only since 1915. The tournament has not been held for eight years during the two World Wars.

The defending champions are Amritha Muttiah (women’s) and Dineshkanthan Thangarajah (men’s).

Meanwhile the 2014 Junior Nationals, staged for U-18 players, is to be held at the same venue from Aug. 8-24. Entries for this will close on Aug. 1 at 5 p.m.
