SL hockey player goes missing

One of the member’s of Sri Lanka’s hockey team which participated at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea has gone missing from the athlete’s village yesterday morning and hadn’t returned by night.

Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, Chef de Mission of Sri Lanka contingent at the Asian Games said the missing player is ‘Prasanna Dissanayake’ attached to the Sri Lanka Army.

As Fernando described, Dissanayke had participated during the closing ceremony on Saturday night (4th) and his roommate had confirmed that he was in his room at around 3:45am.

“I did everything I could. I notified the relevant authorities, collected accreditation cards of others just to be safe. We are scheduled to leave today (6th). As I heard from players, he has relations here (Korea),”said a disappointed Fernando.

The Sri Lanka Hockey team lost all of its matches and finished in the tenth position out of 10 teams and only scored four goals throughout all matches three against the relatively weak Singapore team and one against Oman.

Earlier in the Games, two’ Wushu’ and one ‘Sepaktakraw’ player from Nepal too went missing from the athletes’ village.
