Ritzbury partners for the 12th consecutive year for the Sir John Tarbat Athletic Championship

Sri Lanka’s oldest school athletics event, the Sir John Tarbat Athletic Championship 2024, was announced at a press conference held on June 10th at the Taj Samudra Colombo. Ritzbury has partnered with the Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association to conduct the championship once again.

The 53rd Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championship is set to kick off on June 13, 2024. This year the championship will feature two new meets in Jaffna and Batticaloa to increase the opportunities for young aspiring athletes at the regional level. Over 20,000 participants from nearly 1,000 schools are expected to compete in this prestigious event.

The categories for the championship will comprise Under 11, Under 12. Under 13, Under 14 and Under 15. The junior championship’s first stage will kick off across all provinces on a varying schedule starting from June 13th onwards

  • Northern Province and Anuradhapura District on the 13th and 14th of June at Dureiappa Stadium in Jaffna.
  • Central, Northwestern provinces and Gampaha District from the 12th to 14th of July at Wennappuwa Public Grounds.
  • Kalutara and Colombo district events from the 26th to the 28th of July at Bandaragama public grounds.
  • Eastern Province and Polonnaruwa District events on the 3rd and 4th of August at the Batticaloa Weber grounds.
  • Southern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa Provinces from the 10th to 12th of August at the Embilipitiya Mahaweli Grounds.

the 92nd edition of the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletic Championship will be held from September 10 to 13 at the Sugathadasa Stadium. It will feature athletes in the Under 16, 18, and 20 age groups.

The overall winners of the Junior and Senior Championships will receive awards and scholarships for further development in sports from Ritzbury.

In addition, the Ritzbury Relay Carnival is set to take place from July 2nd to 4th at Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla.
