Four games of Singer U19 Division I Tournament took place today (5th November) around the country. Lumbini College played against President’s College, St. Sylvester’s College played Mahanama College, Dharmapala College took on Mahinda College and St. Sebastian’s College played against Royal College.
Lumbini College, Colombo vs President’s College, Colombo
The game was troubled by the weather gods throughout the day and also saw a late start at the BRC Grounds, Colombo. Lumbini College won the toss and decided to field first. Ravishka Wijesiri of Lumbini College, Colombo had a wonderful outing with the ball in hand as he registered a five-wicket haul for just 8 runs. President’s College was wrapped up in no time by the host for a painful 67 runs.
Coming out to bat, Lumbini too was found in a spot of bother by the end of the day as they were at 42 for 5 in just the 10 overs of play. Skipper, Dushan Fernando hit 22 runs while Kasun Malinda of President’s College picked up 3 wickets for 5 runs.

St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy vs Mahanama College, Colombo
The two teams were battling out their group stage fixture at the Mahinda Rajapakshe International Stadium, Hambantota. Mahanama College, who won the toss, invited the boys from Kandy to bat first. The Vester’s skipper, Manoharan Pavithran lead from the front with a valuable 92 runs to keep St. Sylvester’s alive in the contest. St. Sylvester’s were bowled out for 173 runs. Danuka Nimmana captured 4 wickets for 35 runs.
In reply, Mahanama College were trailing behind at 43 for 2 when the rains hit the grounds, forcing the umpires to give the game up after a while. The match was then announced a draw with neither of the teams getting first-innings honors.

Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya vs Mahinda College, Galle
The game is being worked off at the Dharmapala Grounds. The host was put to bat first by Mahida College. Dharmapala College batsmen were finding it difficult to put off right-arm seamer Kushan Madushka who ripped through the Dharmapala batting unit to restrict them for 137 runs. Madushka bagged 6 wickets for 51 runs. Sanjana Lanka’s 44 runs with the bat was the only notable performance from Dharmapala.
Mahinda College was also in a bit of trouble as they lost two quick wickets early on with just 5 runs on board by the end of the day. The game will resume tomorrow for day two.

The traditional fixture between Royal College, Colombo and St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa got underway at the Royal Grounds. After winning the toss, the Royalist skipper, invited the boys from Moratuwa to bat first.
The regular performers for St. Sebastian’s stood up for duty in this game too as opener Dunith Jayathunga (42) and skipper, Nuwanindu Fernando (32) set the stage for St. Sebastian’s up front. This game was also another rain-affected affair as only 32 overs were possible in the day. St. Sebastian’s were at a comfortable position when the game was stopped with 102 runs on the board for the loss of 4 wickets.
