St. Joseph’s (5) vs Trinity (1)
Date: 5th May 2017
Time: 4pm
Venue: Havelock Park

Both teams coming off two disappointing losses will be seeking to set the record straight. The hosts went down to Wesley last weekend in what seemed to be a wasteful loss, while Trinity’s unbeaten run was put to a stop by the Peter-ites in a tight affair.

Injury meant the Josephians missed Sachith Silva last week against Wesley and his presence was duly missed by a backline which failed to add the finishing touches to the chances they received. Trinity on the other hand, was up to full strength but handling errors and unforced errors left them licking their wounds after a tough defeat.

This game will be an important encounter for the visitors with title hopes on the line, however for the Josephians, a top four finish beckons if they manage to upset the Lions at Havelock Park.

Number 8 Gihan Perera was not up to his best last week and if the lads from Maradana are to have any chance, their forwards will have to up their performance by a few notches against a strong Trinity pack.

Trinitian Warren Weerakoon came off the bench last weekend, bringing on the Razzle Dazzle and will be a man to watch out for this weekend.

Wesley will be chasing a win to bolster their title ambitions further while the Peterites will be hoping to revive their season after somewhat of a horror start to the season in the first round.

The Lee brothers single handedly drove Wesley past St. Joseph’s, these two will be vital for the Les Blues, not only this game but in the weeks ahead if the boys from Wesley are to push towards a championship win.

Jason Karunarathne, playing at flanker was a stand out player last weekend and he will be seeking to repeat his feat this weekend.

Janidu Dilshan was a thorn in the Thomian flesh last week, with in-form centre firing on all cylinders; he will have a tough task at hand in stopping the Zahira three quarter line.

Zahira failed to make inroads against Pathana but will be hoping Yuzran Lantra and Zaid Sinhawansa inspire the lads from Maradana in their home den.

Isipathana (2) vs S. Thomas’ (7)
Date: 6th May 2017
Time: 4pm
Venue: Havelock Park

Isipathana steamrolled Zahira in a convincing win however the Thomians tasted bitter defeat at home, at the hands of arch rivals Royal last week, conceding possession of the Michael Gunaratne trophy.

Isipathana showed glimpses of coming back to their best as their forwards and three quarter line functioned smoothly in the game against Zahira. The Thomians, on the other hand, did not get going, managing just two tries in the first half and going pointless in the second.

Chamodh Fernando was the pick of the lot for the Green Machine last weekend, breaking the line stepping in from fullback and was also a rock in defense. He will seek to replicate his efforts to take Isipathana towards glory.

Thomian captain Naveen Henakankanamge was the single stand out player against Royal in the handful attacking moves they made and in defense. A win for the Thomians could dent Isipathana’s hopes of defending their League title.
