Wesley College and St. Anthony’s College remains unbeaten in the second round of Plate championship and as two are set to clash tomorrow the winner will secure the title. However as it stands both teams go to the top ladder next year and will compete in the Segment 1A or 1B.
2nd Round Point Table -2014- Plate Championship (6th Week – 23rd to 09th June)
The above points table from Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) explains the current standings. St. Anthony’s and Dharmaraja played each other whilst Wesley won versus D.S.Senanayake in the first round. Therefore the points off the matches played during the first around between these teams will be carried forward. Furthermore, CWW Kannangara played against Prince of Wales’ and Mahanama went up against Ananda in the first round and those points have also been are carried forward to the plate.
CWW will be the first of the development schools of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union to be promoted to the top division irrespective of the decision in their game against Mahanama to be worked off on Sunday. On the other hand an interesting battle will be played out between last year’s league champions Dharmaraja who are struggling to remain in the top tier for next season and DS Senanayake. Rajans need a bonus point win over the Dons but it will still depend on how Prince of Wales play against Ananda on Monday.
So the most predictable 4 who would be going to the top tier are Wesley, St. Anthony’s , CWW Kannangara and Prince of Wales’ but it is still left to be seen. Wesley looks favorite to win the plate championship after a comfortable win last week in Kandy against Dharmaraja.
