After battling out for over a month in the first round of the Singer Schools U17 Cricket tournament over a span of different venues all over the Island, 32 teams have earned promotion to the next round. The tournament kicked off in May featuring 74 teams in the first round on a league basis divided into 10 groups.
The selected 32 teams will now advance to the second round of the ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 17 Division 1 Inter Schools Cricket tournament conducted by the Sri Lankan Schools Cricket Association together with Singer Sri Lanka PLC.
The second round will be played on the league basis divided into 8 groups. Champions and runner up teams in every group, eventually 16 teams will qualify to the pre quarter final round and will move ahead on the knockout basis.
St. Servatius College Matara was crowned last year’s champions but surprisingly failed to qualify to the second round meaning a new champion will be crowned for the year 2018.
The 8 groups for the second round are as follows.
Group ‘P’ – Nalanda College Colombo, Maris Stella College Negombo, Sri Sumangala College Panadura, Prince of Wales College Moratuwa
Group ‘Q’ – S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia, Piliyandala Central College, Mahanama College Colombo, Ananda College Colombo
Group ‘R’ – St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya, St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa, St. John’s College Jaffna, Royal College Colombo
Group ‘S’ – Isipathana College Colombo, Dharmapala Colege Pannipitiya, St. Sylvester’s College Kandy, St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa
Group ‘T’ – St. Joseph’s College Colombo, Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda, Vidyaloka College Galle, Thurstan College Colombo
Group ‘U’ – Gurukula College Kelaniya, St. Aloysius College Galle, Richmond College Galle, St. Anthony’s College Wattala
Group ‘V’ – St. Anthony’s College Kandy, Dharmaraja College Kandy, St. Peter’s College Negombo, St. Thomas College Matara
