Murali Vijay has been ruled out of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka that starts on July 26 in Galle with a wrist injury. Opener, Shikhar Dhawan will replace Vijay for the series, the BCCI confirmed through a media release.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Monday named Shikhar Dhawan as the resplacement for injured Murali Vijay in the Test team, which is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series,” BCCI said through a media release.
Vijay played with a fractured wrist during part of India’s marathon 13-match home Test season. After playing the first Test against Australia, he missed the Bengaluru Test and then returned for the last two matches of the series.
After the season, Vijay travelled to the UK for surgery on his injured wrist which forced him to miss the tenth edition of the IPL. After undergoing rehabilitation, he started his practice, but still felt pain in his right wrist.
“Vijay, who had suffered a wrist injury during Australia’s tour of India, has complained of pain in his right wrist, while playing a preparatory match. The BCCI medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program,” the release stated.
