Sherman Lewis, the medium pacer from the Windward Islands, has been called up to replace the injured Alzarri Joseph in the 15-man Windies squad for the Tests against India next month.

Lewis is yet to make his international debut, but impressed for the Windies during the tour of England with the ‘A’ squad earlier this year, when he picked up four-wicket hauls in each innings of the first four-day match against India A.

Lewis made his first-class debut last year for Windward Islands and ended the 2017-18 season with 30 wickets at 21.66 in the domestic four-day tournament.

Joseph, meanwhile, is yet to fully recover from a stress fracture suffered in November. He did, however, play in the recent one-day internationals against Bangladesh at home and then the Caribbean Premier League.

But after two fitness assessments, the Cricket West Indies medical team recommended that he be “allowed to continue his rehabilitation to full fitness for international competitions”. Joseph will continue his rehabilitation programme at the High-Performance Centre at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.

The Windies’ two-Test series against India starts on 4 October in Rajkot. The tour also comprises five ODIs and a three-match Twenty20 Internationals series.
