Shammi Silva was elected as the uncontested President of Sri Lanka Cricket for the period of 2021 to 2023 at the conclusion of the election today (20).
Silva was the immediate past president of SLC and contested again this year amidst several allegations against his administration which included financial mismanagement and fraud. But, none of the allegations were proven.
With the elections around the corner, Shammi’s opponents, K. Mathivanan and his ally withdrew from the elections stating that SLC is drowned beyond the salvage point.
In the withdrawn party, K. Mathivanan contested for the presidency while Bandula Warnapura and Nishantha Ranatunga were accompanying him for the Vice President and Secretary posts respectively.
As a result of the withdrawal, Shammi Silva and Co were inducted to the office for their second stint uncontested.
