Shammi Silva has been elected as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket for 2019/20 beating out Jayantha Dharmadasa by a majority of 27 votes at the SLC AGM held at the Sports Ministry today.

New date for SLC elections; Two camps gear up for close battle

The final vote count was read as 83 to 56 in favor of current CCC chairman Shammi Silva who has previously held the position of Treasurer in SLC.

Silva who is a celebrated old boy of Nalanda College, has captained the Colombo Cricket Club team in the 1983/84 season.

Previous SLC President, Thilanga Sumathipala opted out from the election pointing his political commitments two months ago.

Mohan de Silva secured the secretary post by 51 votes ahead of Dharmadasa ally, Nishantha Ranatunga. Earlier Mohan de Silva was in hot water as the rejection of the nominations submitted by De Silva and Wickramaratne was officially announced via a Media Release signed by Secretary of the Sports Ministry and Competent Authority of Sri Lanka Cricket, W.A. Chulananda Perera.

Former World cup winning captain, Minister Arjuna Ranatunga who contested for the vice-president position was defeated by former SLC office bearers Ravin WIckramaratne and K. Mathivanan.

Nalin Wickramasinghe was appointed as treasurer of SLC beating his counterpart from the Dharmadasa party, Eastman Narangoda.

SLC has been under a Competent Authority, W.A. Chulananda Perera since May 31, 2018, after the Court of Appeal suspended the previous board on the grounds that they went against election protocols.
