The International Cricket Council (ICC) today(18) confirmed that the bowling action of Sri Lankan pace-man Shaminda Eranga has been cleared, and he can now resume bowling in international cricket.

Eranga was reported for a suspect action during Sri Lanka’s tour of England in May 2016 during the second test at Chester-le-Street where he went wicket-less. He last represented Sri Lanka in an ODI against Ireland in June 2016, before he was suspended after an independent assessment which found his bowling action to be illegal.

Eranga underwent a re-assessment of his bowling action at the ICC accredited testing center in Chennai with the assessment concluding that the amount of elbow extension in his standard deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Regulations for the Review of Bowlers  reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.

The umpires are still allowed to report him if they find his action illegal in the future or if they believe he is not producing the bowling action which was deemed legal during the assessments. The ICC have provided the umpires with footage of his legal bowling action to assist the umpires in this regard.
