The Iranian girls beat Sri Lanka 4-1 in a Group “B” match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) under 19 women’s qualifier match held at Police Park on Sunday.

The loss of this match meant the Sri Lankan team has been eliminated from the AFC U-19 championship which will be held in China next year.

The Iranian girls dominated the match right from the beginning, and they managed to keep possession as they predicted before the tournament. The first goal was scored by Shabnam Behesht in the 25th minute, and five minutes later Zahra Khodabakhishi scored another excellent goal.

Later in the 37th minute Shabnam Behesht scored her second goal, and the commanding performance of the Iranian girls secured them the lead in the first half 3-0 as a result of the inexperienced Sri Lankan girls performance.

In the 12th minute of the second half Sri Lanka scored their first goal through Kavindi Upeksha, while Shabnam scored her third goal in the dying minutes of the game.

The Sri Lankan girls put up a better performance in the second half and managed to restrict the Iranians to only one goal, to win the match 4-1.

Iran will play against Palestine in their final Group stage match on Tuesday at the same venue.
