The Srilankasports.com inter-club Netball tournament saw old foes Hatton National Bank and Seylan Bank lock horns in the finals. Seylan Bank overcame the Hatton National challenge as they retained their title for the second consecutive year.
After losing out on last year’s title by a solitary point, Hatton Nation Bank set out to avenge their defeat this year. However, it was a repeat of last year’s tale for the Hatton National ladies as they lost once again to Seylan bank with the final score reading 44-41 in favor of the latter.
Seylan Bank reiterated their feat in the mix team event as they beat the Citizen Development team 23-09 to retain their title in that respective category as well.
However, Citizens Development won the plate championship, beating Commercial Credit 18-12.
Tournament debutantes, MAS Shadeline along with David Peiris played out a thrilling final in the bowl final as MAS Shadeline came out on top, beating the latter 20-18 to clinch the title.
The tournament, which has been held for a decade, was greeted by the presence of Parliament Services minister Hon. Minister Nimal Bopage who was present for the presentation ceremony.
The tournament was held at the St. Joseph’s College, Maradana indoor stadium on the 21st of January with the participation of 13 teams. 8 teams took part in the women’s draw as 5 teams tussled for the mixed teams’ title. The women’s draw was contested under the Shield, Plate and Bowl categories.
