Sensei Sisirakumara re-elected “Big Boss” of Sri Lanka karate

SLKF AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation was held yesterday at the National Institute for Sports Science, Colombo 07. It was attended by over 200 members and officials of the federation from major clubs under the SLKF in the likes of Army, Navy, Air Force and Police Sports Clubs.

The meeting turned out to be that of one with a rather long duration as new plans, policies and ideas were shared, debated and discussed at length among the quorum. It is noteworthy that all this haste comes amidst Karate being recently recognized as a sport that is eligible to be represented at the Olympics. Thus, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will see Karate making its debut feature in the Olympics arena.

The SLKF committee for 2016/2017 was not replaced completely as some of the office bearers were re-elected to bear office for the following year too. The committee for 2016/2017 comprised of:

President – Sensei H M Sisirakumara
General Secretary – Sensei Keerthikumara Basnayake
Vice Presidents – Sensei Lakmal Fonseka and Susil Hadunetti
Assistant Secretaries – Sensei Priyantha Fernando and Jagath Priyadarshana
Treasurer – Sensei Rohana Greesman
Assistant Treasurer – Sensei N N Kaffir.

The committee for 2017/2018 comprises of:

President – Sensei H M Sisirakumara
General Secretary – Sensei Keerthikumara Basnayake
Vice Presidents – Senseis Mahesh Kumara, Lakshman Saparamadu and Mohomad Nazar
Assistant Secretaries – Senseis Z A Rauf and Jagath Priyadarshana
Treasurer – Sensei Rohana Greesman
Assistant Treasurer – Sensei Virgin Fernando.

The vote base for the SLKF is founded on its membership of 342 Karate Sports Clubs out of which 202 Clubs registered to vote at the above AGM. Out of the 202 registered voters, 42 voter clubs were absent and unrepresented. However, at the AGM itself, a resolution was passed to have a vote on whether new registrations should be entertained immediately before the session. It was passed at the vote that new registrations of voters should be entertained and therefore 43 other voters were registered at the venue for the AGM. Thus, total number of voters was 203.

The AGM ended after the office bearers addressed the gathering which was followed by the Vote of thanks conveyed by the SLKF President sensei Sisirakumara who thanked everyone gathered for their support and enthusiasm. He ended his speech by reiterating the fact that candidates who seek to contest should earn the candidacy by working for the federation and showing their enthusiasm towards the sport and not just towards the seat. Having very well said so, the SLKF ended on a good note and a spot reception too was hosted by the new committee.
