Three matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.
Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa vs Royal College, Colombo
This traditional fixture between Prince of Wales College and Royal College concluded today at Royal College grounds. The match ended as a draw but the Cambrians managed to secure first innings points. Royal batsmen resumed day two on 30 runs for 4 wickets and were bowled out for 213 runs. Right handed batsmen Pasindu Sooriyabandara (87) and Thevinda Senevirathne (75) top scored for the hosts. Cambrian off spinner Savindu Peiris picked up 6 wickets for 69 runs.
Lads from Moratuwa began their second innings 64 runs ahead and declared at 180 runs for 6 wickets. Royal College was set a target of 245 runs to chase but they only scored 61 runs for 1 wicket as umpires called stumps on day two.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa vs Bandaranayake College, Gampaha
St. Sebastian’s College managed to record a comprehensive innings victory against Bandaranayke College in a Group A fixture which was worked off today at Surrey grounds, Maggona. After being put into bat first, the lads from Moratuwa posted a solid 301 runs for 9 wickets in their first innings. Tharusha Fernando top scored with 95 runs while Nishitha Abilash (55) and Shanel Fernando (51) contributed with valuable runs for Sebastians.
In reply, Bandaranayake College was bowled out for 182 runs in their first innings. After being asked to follow on, the lads from Gampaha, did not show any improvement with the bat in the second innings as they were bundled out for just 101 runs. After taking 5 wickets in the first innings, left arm spinner Vinuja Ranasinghe took another 4 wickets in the second innings for Sebastians which takes his match tally into 9 wickets for 119 runs.

Group D fixture between St. Joseph’s College and S. Thomas’ College commenced today at S. Thomas’ College grounds. After winning the toss Joes skipper opted to bat first and posted 220 runs all out for their first innings. Dunith Wellalage top scored with 59 runs while Johanne de Zilva and Lakshan Gamage chipped in with 47 runs each.
In the bowling department, Shannon Fernando and Mohammed Azam impressed with the ball for the Thomians by picking up 3 wickets each. In reply, the lads from Mount Lavinia were 37 runs for 1 wicket when umpires called stumps on day one. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
