St. Sebastian’s College won their inter school cricket match today against St. Peters College in Bambalapitiya a short while ago.
St. Peters batting in their first innings was all out for 73 runs with Lahiru Malintha top scoring with 28 runs. He was the only batsman who made a noteworthy contribution while the other batsmen failed to come to terms with the pitch. In the bowling department the Seba bowlers led by their right arm medium pace bowler Avishka Fernando kept a tight line and length in the first innings to come out trumps.
Avishka Fernando ended his quota of over’s with a fine spell, finished with 5 wickets for 13 while Kusal Lakshitha ended with 2/15.
St. Sebastian’s in their first innings were all out for 109 in 45.2 over’s with a lead of 36 runs. Luke Jaydeva scored 31 and was the highest scorer in the innings. Left arm leg spinner Julian De Zilva was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings capturing 4 wickets for 26 runs. He was given a lot of support from Shamila Obeysekera (3/27) and Kushan Fernando (3/13).
The Peterites in their 2nd innings with a 36 run deficit did not impress being all out for 103 runs lasting for just 41.3 over’s. SPC skipper Dushan Hemantha was the main contributor scoring 33 runs while Ramitha Liyanarachchi scored 22 runs.
Left arm pace bowler Anuk Fernando and right arm pacie Avishka Fernando claimed 4 wickets each to set up the run chase for the visitors.
St. Sebastians who were set a target of 67 runs, managed to get it in 15/2 over’s and finished on 70/1 Luke Jayadeva after a top score in the first innings, continued his form scoring 44 unbeaten runs which included six hits to the rope and 1 towering six. Anuka Perera also contributed with 13 runs.
