Two of Sri Lanka’s most senior players Sean Wijesinghe and Achala Perera will not participate in the A5N tournament ThePapare learns.
According to the head of the selection commitee, Chandrishan Perera both Sean and Achala have been ruled out due to injury. Sean Wijesinghe the former Sri Lanka skipper plays in the number eight position while Achala Perera is a specialist hooker having represented the National team on a number of occasions.
Both these players have an abundance of experience between them have taken part in may international tournaments.
Sevens skipper Fazil Marija who sustained an injury during the 1st day of the Singapore sevens tournament will undergo a fitness test prior to the final selection. However chief selector, Chandrishan Perera was positive about his recovery and stated, “He’s been undergoing three training sessions a day, and looks good to go”.
Marija was named yesterday as the deputy skipper for the upcoming A5N tournament which is scheduled to be held in April this year. Yoshitha Rajapakse was named captain of the side after having led them last year.
