Science College marked one of their finest victories at the Bogambara Stadium last evening overwhelming Dharmaraja College by 50 points (T8 C5) to 36 (T6 C3).
Science ended up the first round finishing third in their group with this win. Opening try for the game was scored by Flanker Udesh Madushanka from the driving maul in the lineout. Rajans defense tried valiantly but they did not have the power to stop Madushanka.
Winger Hurigolla opened up the score for the hosts. A short pass from his fellow outside center T. Ratnayake who caught up couple of defenders which gave the chance to the winger to run through open space. Skipper Viraj made no mistakes with the extras.
Science captain Lasindu Ishan breaks from the scrum and off loaded to Maduranga who fended off three defenders to go pass the tryline. Then came a well-planned technique which worked out perfectly for Lasindu’s team. After playing couple of phases in the Rajan’s 22m line flanker Udesh managed to land on the try line dragging 2 defenders along with him. Thanuja converted easily.
Science College had more ball possession than their opponents. Even though Rajans were good with their backs it took some time for them to gel together. A carbon copy of the previous try let Maduranga score yet another one. (Science 24- 07 Dharmaraja)
As the time was moving on for the short whistle, Maduranga jumps over the try line with the help of Fly half Neranjan to score the 5th try for his team. The final try in the first half came by Udesh through an unstoppable driving maul. Udesh just had to fall on the try line as his fellow team mates hauled him over. Thanuja not failing to convert.

Dharmaraja had the luck in the start of the 2nd half. Being in the Science territory for a long time as the Rajans had put pressure on the opponent. Viraj collected a short pass from the flyhalf and landed it under the post for the 2nd try for his team which was also converted by the skipper. A quick tap was taken by Viraj inside their 10 meter line which he went on to pass to Winger Habaragama who ran all the way to the try line without any obstacles. Dharmaraja 19- Science 36.
Hosts scored 2 tries back to back which put the Mount lads under pressure. Both the tries were scored by winger Gihan Malinga who used his speedy legs. Later on Science scored two tries with successful conversions which helped them mark 50 on the score board.
In the latter part of the game, the Rajans scored a couple of tries and only one was converted. Which gave them a score margin of 50-36 as the victory goes to the visitors.
