Schools T20 Tournament – Dharmasoka and St.Thomas College notch up victories

Two quarter final games were played in the ‘Singer’ under 19 Twenty20 tournament on Wednesday at Moors grounds. Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda and St. Thomas College registered easy wins as they progressed to the semi-finals.

Moratu Vidyalaya vs Dharmasoka

Sri Lanka under 19 youth player and Sokian skipper Ramesh Mendis showcased a stunning all round performance to help Dharmasoka College qualify for the Semi-Finals of the ‘Singer’ under 19 all island T20 tournament when they beat Moratu Vidyalaya by 7 wickets at Moors grounds today.

Moratu Vidyalaya batting first made 140 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Kanishka Prabath cracked a stunning 36 balls 66 runs with 5 towering sixes while Sanuka Madushan chipped in with 21 runs. Right arm off spinner Ramesh Mendis captured 3 wickets for 21 runs while Sachin Divangana took 2 wickets for the winners. 

Chasing a victory target of 141, Dharmasoka College cruised to victory with skipper Ramesh Mendis hammering a scintillating 50 runs in just 23 deliveries with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Sachin Divangana contributed with an unbeaten 37 runs in 33 balls. Dharmasoka College chased down the target in the 16th over with 29 balls to spare.

Moratu Vidyalaya – 140/8 in 20 overs: Kanishka Prabath 66, Sanuka Madushan 21, Ramesh Mendis 3/21, Sachin Devangana 2/33.

Dharmasoka College – 142/3 in 15.1 overs:  Ramesh Mendis 50*, Sachin Devangana 37*, Harsha Devinda 1/24.

 

St. Thomas vs Richmond

St.Thomas College put up a strong performance to beat the fancied two-day league champions Richmond College by a massive 86 runs in their ‘Singer’ under 19 all island T20 tournament quarter final played at Moors grounds today.

St.Thomas College won the toss and elected to put runs on the board 1st. They made a mammoth total of 209 runs in their allotted 20 overs to a decent Richmond bowling attack. Skipper Madushan Ravichandrakumar and Hard hitting middle order batsman Sachitha Jayathilake were the top run-getters as they smashed 58 runs apiece in no time. Vice captain Thilaksha Sumanasiri hammered 48 runs in 25 balls in top of the innings to kick start the typical T20 hitting game. Right arm off spinner Waruna Deshappriya took 4 wickets but gave away 43 runs in his quota of 4 overs. 

Chasing a daunting target of 210 to win, Richmond College was never in the chase as they failed to keep wickets and accumulate runs. Richmond batting lineup was bowled out in the 13th over after making 123 runs. Skipper AK Tyron was the top runs scorer with 35 runs while Kelum Nanayakkara scored 25 runs. All the bowlers contributed to the Thomian winning cause.
