The inclusion of D. S. Senanayaka College has created some controversy with the awarding of points as the Group IA will have 7 teams while the other group will only consist of 6 teams. The Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association decided to include DS Senanayake in the top division following a enjoining order attained by the school for governing body’s decision to promote Prince of Wales College to the top division ahead of DS. However, the SSRFA’s decision seems to have done more harm than good.
Scintillating first week of Schools’ Rugby – Photo Story
The Schools’ Rugby tournament is conducted on a league system and the title is awarded to the team that accumulates the most number of points at the end of the league. Therefore there will quite obviously be a problem with one group playing 6 games each while the other plays only 5.
According to confirmed sources from the SLSRFA, each team will receive 5 points each for a win and 1 point is awarded for a defeat. Also, a team scoring four or more tries, regardless of the result, will be awarded 1 bonus point which is the equivalent of 0.5 points. Also, a team losing within a difference of 7 points will also be granted 1 bonus point also equivalent to 0.5 points.

ThePapare’s efforts in contacting Secretary of the SLSRFA Denzil Darling have proved to be futile.
