Most surprisingly, rugby giants Kingswood College might be demoted if they lose this Saturday to the Dons. Kingswood had a close defeat over St. Joseph’s and Prince of Wales’. Meanwhile, Prince of Wales’ and Zahira will battle it out this Friday for the promotional battle at Longdon Place.

Joes fought hard last week against Kingswood for a 27 – 25 victory after trailing 10-13 at half time. As a result, Joes topped the table. They struggled against Zahira in the previous week where they won 21-20 in a very close tussle. Dharmaraja College, on the other hand was denied a win by the Dons with a last minute penalty which took them to a 24-25 win. The Rajans will qualify to play in the top tier regardless of the result this Saturday.

Although D.S. Senanayake drew 27-27 with Zahira and beat Dharmaraja and CWW Kannangara, they have to win against Kingswood to be in segment one next season.

The schools that finished bottom of the segment 1A and 1B are St. Joseph’s, D.S. Senanayake and Kingswood, Dharmaraja respectively. Prince of Wales managed to top the segment 2A while Mahanama finished second at the end of the first round. Zahira finished unbeaten in segment 2B and CWW Kannangara finished second. Interestingly CWW Kannangara gave Zahira a walk-over in the group stage.

CWW Kannangara surprised Prince of Wales with a 17 – 05 win last week. As a result it will be a deciding thriller between the Cambrians and Zahira as whoever wins will be promoted. Prince of Wales last played  A division rugby in 2010 and Zahira in 2002.
