The second day of the All Island relay championship 2016 saw 9 finals spanning across all age groups being worked off with athletes from across the Island competed for over 20 medals on offer.
The first session of the day got on to an exciting start with 4x800m relay finals for Under 17 and 19 (Boys /Girls ) taking place followed by the fast paced 4x400m Under 15 (Boys/Girls) relay, which were closely contested races won by Trinity College Kandy (boys’ category) and St. John Kothalawale, Kurunegala (girls’ category).

A majority of the races held today were heats and semifinals to select the fastest teams for the grand finale of the games, which will see a total of 24 final races completed tomorrow. Teams from St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya , St. Bendict’s ,Sumana B/V Ratnapura and Mahamaya College booked their place for the U-17 4x400m finals tomorrow.
At the conclusion of day two, St. Benedict’s, Colombo lead the overall boys’ points table with Walala A Ratnayake College and Trinity College in second and third place respectively, while the Girls’ points table is headed by Walala A Ratnayake followed by Abangamuwa Central College and Sumana Vidyalaya Ratnapura.

With the majority of the heats and semifinals done, the third and final day of the resurrected All Island Relay Championship is set to be an enthralling day of competition. Young budding athletes from across the country will take to the tracks of Bogambara in the hope of bringing glory to their Alma-mater where their speed and team work will be put to test.
