Another five big matches of March Madness Big Match Season kicked off today (24th March) at Kandy, Matara, Colombo, Kurunegala and Kegalle.

116th Battle of the Maroons Hill Country

Kingswood College met Dharmaraja College for their 116th Battle of the Maroons Hill Country today at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

After having won the toss, Kings put Rajans into bat first, but they’re bundled out for 114 with Isuru Pannala scoring 25 as their only batter to cross the 20-run mark. In the bowling department, Kingswood’s Kenula Pihilianga, Amesh Rupasinghe and Abdul Hakeem took 3 wickets apiece.

In reply, disappointingly, the Kings have lost their first 5 wickets for only 26 runs. However, a fighting knock of an unbeaten 66 from skipper Amesh Rupasinghe takes his side to the lead before bowling out for 132. On the other hand, Pulindu Perera bagged 4/43 with the ball.

At the end of day 1, Rajans openers have batted for an over, but haven’t gotten off the mark.

123rd Battle of the Blues Ruhunu

The 123rd Battle of the Blues Ruhunu kicked off today at Uyanwatta Grounds in Matara between St. Thomas’ College and St. Servatius’ College.

After being put into bat first, the Thomians haven’t got a good start by losing 3/49. But the opener, Ochintha Chamika played his part brilliantly with a 77-run knock. Apart from that, Pesandu Sanjan made 35 as they’re 193/7 at the end of day 1 while Thisan Dewmith picked 4/38 as well.

17th Battle of the Golds

D.S. Senanayake College took on Mahanama College for the 17th Battle of the Golds today at P. Sara Oval Stadium in Colombo.

After deciding to bat first, D.S. managed to get 203 runs for their first innings and Manula Peiris top scored with 98 while Inuka Karannagoda registered a fifer.

At the end of day 1, Mahanama College were in a comfortable position by positing 120/3 with key batter, Kavindu Amameth remaining not out on 75.

39th Battle of the Rocks

The 39th Battle of the Rocks began today at Welagedara Cricket Grounds in Kurunegala between Maliydeva College and St. Anne’s College.

St. Anne’s had to bat first after inviting them to do so by Maliyadeva. Thereafter, the Annites decided to declare their innings after scoring 164/9. In reply, Devans posted 34/2 before the stumps has been called on day 1.

Gayana Weerasinghe’s bowling was the highlight of the day as he produced a terrific spell of 6/35.

41st Battle of the Golds

The 41st Battle of the Golds between Kegalu Vidyalaya and St. Mary’s College was held today at Kegalle Public Grounds.

St. Mary’s won the toss and invited the opponents to bat first. But Kegalu Vidyalaya hasn’t responded well against them as they were blown away for only 91 runs. Kasun Bandara scored 37 as their chief scorer while Chamod Akash bowled outstandingly with figures of 4/30. Apart from that, Supun Lakmal and Thanuja Sampath shared 6 wickets between them.

In reply, St. Mary’s College managed to get 121 runs after losing 5 wickets at the end of day 1. Skipper Naveen Themiya remained not out on 26 while Kavindu Prakash got 2 wickets too.
